Excerpts From The Forum

Making Philosophy and Theory Accessible to Journalists

After stressing a need for a strong philosophical foundation for the society Ana María Miralles wrote, "The most serious authors of Public Opinion and Political Communication Theory must be our basis."

Then Cole Campbell set up a question for Miralles and everyone else in this new public journalism society, by asking how will we "make these thinkers accessible to working journalists who have little patience with the elaborate expositions of philosophers."

But Jay Rosen stresses, "Knowing what your philosophy is and how it 'works' is the most practical kind of work anyone who cares about journalism can be doing. Not teaching the skills of reflection is malpractice if you're training people to go out and do journalism."
