First Online Forum -- First Draft of the Charter is built by some 50 journalists, academics, and citizen advocates. Future of civic journalism discussed.

Dec. 18, 2002 - Jan. 15, 2003
Second Online Forum - First draft of the Charter is vetted by an open forum to everyone interested in the topic. Discussion on Civic Journalism continues.

Jan. 15-Jan. 21, 2003
Cole Campbell, Charter draft editor, and his committee revise Charter based on all that is heard in the forums.

Jan. 24-25, 2003
Kennesaw State University's Fowler Chair hosts Charter Meeting of new society. Charter is further honored and approved. Society officially named. First slate of officers elected. Plans made to make society self-sustaining.

New Charter, Jan. 24-25 live discussions, and earlier online discussions are archived on this web site. They are also forwarded to Civic Journalism Archives at University of Wisconsin.

July 29, 2003
New officers meet with academics at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Conference in Kansas City. Efforts made to build relationships between new society and students and professors. Done in cooperation with the AEJMC's Civic Journalism Interested Group.

Spring, 2004
In early fall 2002, Leonard Witt, Kennesaw State University's Robert D. Fowler Distinguished Chair in Communication, offered to host the first international conference of this new society. Depending on will of the new society's officers and members, that first conference would be earmarked for spring, 2004
